MICAELA FORTE

M.Sc. Student,
Faculty of Health Sciences, Western University

I am a Masters student in the Faculty of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Western University. I recently graduated from my undergrad in Health Sciences at Western where I found my passion for bioethics and became an executive of the Health Ethics, Law, and Policy (HELP) Lab. I am looking forward to pursuing research in pediatric bioethics under the supervision of Dr. Maxwell Smith and Dr. Jacob Shelley. I enjoy cooking and hiking in my free time!

My research investigates the ethical challenges that befall pediatric patients in clinical practice. Specifically, how the best interest of the child standard is interpreted in healthcare and law when they are deemed incapable of making their own treatment decisions. I look forward to analyzing how this research will identify ways to reform the standard in practice to optimize pediatric patients’ assessment of capacity and treatment.
