DANIEL WYZYNSKI

Doctoral Student;
Health Science, Western University

Daniel Wyzynski is an Ethicist at London Health Sciences Centre and an Adjunct Research Professor with the school of Health Studies. He is currently completing his doctoral work in the Health & Rehabilitation Sciences program under the supervision of Dr. Maxwell Smith. Daniel’s research aims to address ethical conflicts and tensions that exists across children’s mental health departments within hospitals. Difficult questions can arise when children are brought in for mental health concerns, but parents are also in need of mental health supports. Daniel’s research investigates the intersection of policy, legislation, and best medical practices with the goal to develop recommendations to ensure these three pillars are aligned with providing the highest standard of care, rather than overcomplicating care pathways.

Daniel has held various roles relating to ethics in London over the past 6 years, including work as a research assistant, research ethics coordinator, research ethicist, and presently as a clinical and organizational ethicist. His current research is directly informed by his work supporting patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams at London Health Sciences Centre in the paediatric mental health department. In order to provide the best care possible, reduce administrative challenges for clinicians, and eliminate barriers to accessing mental health services, principles of ethics must be deployed to address existing tensions in legislation and policy.
